Mariahof
Where old and new meet
Project Mariahof in Leuven exemplifies the integration of modern architecture with historical heritage. Centrally located, it balances contemporary design with appreciation for the city’s context. The architectural vision is rooted in principles of contextual integration, sustainability, and livability, influencing every detail from material choices to spatial organization.
Integrating a modern care housing complex within Leuven’s historical setting posed challenges. Existing heritage was adapted to contemporary needs, restoring historical charm through careful color studies. Old roof structures were preserved for the Sisters of Mary’s new chapel, while the design respects the scale of surrounding buildings with clean lines.
The project features spacious, bright living areas focused on comfort and flexibility, along with communal gardens to encourage community interaction. Durable brick and wood facades enhance sustainability and visual appeal. Interiors emphasize comfort, with adaptable layouts and abundant natural light, creating a luxurious living experience.
