Expertise

We focus our expertise on two main areas.

Our education projects create spaces where kids can thrive in the 21st century. And our work+life concept brings together all aspects of life, connecting different functions and uses. b By focusing on these areas, we build deep knowledge. With this knowledge, we can provide thoughtful and creative solutions to design challenges.

We see these two areas as connected, not separated. e We're always looking for ways to learn from each other and strengthen both.

education

At Oskar, we believe that education is the foundation of our society. Therefore, we design functional buildings that allow both children and teachers to develop without limits.

Principles

Five core principles guide our design process, no matter the project or client.

Designing with people in mind

Designing with
people in mind

We approach everything from a human perspective. We consider how people live, learn, and work within a space. Focusing on well-being is essential for creating environments where people can thrive and feel good. A horizontal, human-centered approach keeps the focus on the ultimate experience of the human in our buildings.

Room for encounter

Room for
encounter

We believe that learning, working, and living spaces should be both enjoyable and stimulating. The right spatial relationships and furnishings foster interaction between functions and users. A stimulating environment enhances autonomy and invites discovery and creativity. We provide the appropriate spatial support for both daily and exceptional activities.

Building on expertise

Building
on expertise

Oskar's approach is defined by a blend of solid experience and fresh perspectives. An open mind and daily research keep us sharp, enabling us to provide thoughtful responses within a dynamic work environment. Our dual focus allows us to concentrate our expertise in areas where we can make the greatest impact.

Functionality as a foundation

Functionality
as a foundation

At Oskar, we develop design solutions that address the real needs of today. We focus on what matters: a functional and pleasant design. A building must first and foremost function well. A sound, balanced architecture provides the right spatial conditions for a program to function correctly.

A vision for the future

A vision
for the future

Driven by a focus on human experience, we prioritize the well-being of future generations. Our approach includes reusing buildings, circular construction, efficient design, and flexible spaces to maximize the lifespan of our projects.

Frequently asked questions

  • Who is Oskar?

Oskar is our team. Just like in our projects, our agency revolves around humanity. It's not the name or the person of founders from a distant past that is central, but rather the collective that strives every day to elevate projects to a higher level.

  • How does Oskar work?

Our approach is centered around a collaborative dialogue within our two areas of focus. By leveraging our extensive experience, we deeply understand our clients' aspirations. We then blend this understanding with our practical construction knowledge and innovative design insights.

This dual focus allows us to provide a tailored approach with in-depth expertise. Together with our clients, we navigate the entire project journey, from concept to completion, ensuring a financially sound, technically viable, and high-quality outcome.

  • What kind of projects do you work on?

Our projects are centered around our dual focus on education and work-life projects. A common thread in all our projects is a focus on well-being in all its forms. We seek out projects where we feel we can add significant value in this area. This motivation drives our commitment to our clients, whether they are municipalities, schools, developers, or individuals.

  • Why the dual focus on education en work+life?

Our research-driven approach, focused on education and work-life, enables us to develop a deep understanding of these complex areas. By conducting in-depth research and engaging in daily projects within these domains, we build a robust knowledge base. This foundation allows us to provide evidence-based, tailored solutions to design challenges. The interconnectedness of these two areas is a key aspect of our work, as we continually explore opportunities for cross-pollination and innovation.

  • How is Oskar organized?

Our office is structured into two teams. Each team consists of multiple project managers, project architects, interior designers, urban planners, and BIM modelers. The specific team for a project is always custom-assembled to meet the client's expectations. Within each team, a project manager serves as the single point of contact for the client. Throughout the project, the teams are supported by specialized phase-support staff to leverage concentrated knowledge and experience across projects.

  • Looking for an internship or job opportunity?

Oskar is always open to new faces and ideas. Be sure to check out the Jobs page on our website. We offer internships for graduated architects in accordance with the regulations of the Order of Architects. Additionally, depending on ongoing projects, we sometimes have opportunities for student interns during the summer months. If you are interested, please don't hesitate to contact us.

  • What's it like to work at Oskar?

At Oskar, people come first. This applies to our designs as well as our internal operations. We actively strive to create a welcoming environment. A good work-life balance is key. Our horizontal studio structure encourages creativity, collaboration, and personal input. Professionally, we offer the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of projects under the guidance of experienced architects, with various opportunities for growth. Additionally, we regularly organize informal events such as breakfast meetings and our Oskar cafés. Our working languages are Dutch and English.

  • Where can you find Oskar?

Oskar is located just outside the Brussels ring road, in Dilbeek. The office is easily accessible by bike, public transport, and car. By bike, you can follow the Ninoofsesteenweg from Brussels to the office. By public transport, take the bus to the Dilbeek Sint-Antoon stop (20 minutes from the center of Brussels) and then walk 5 minutes to the office. Due to its location near exit 13 of the Brussels ring road, the office is also easily accessible by car. There is parking for cars and a covered bicycle parking area at the office.

  • What is Osk-ART?

Oskar shares its office with Osk-ART, founded by one of the office's founders. Osk-ART offers an exhibition space for young artists. Every month, a new artist showcases their work on the ground floor of our office. This not only provides us with a constantly changing work environment but also fuels the creative processes and atmosphere in the office through opening events and presentations.

  • How is the Office?

Since 2021, Oskar has been housed in a new office. We transformed a former postal distribution center into a spacious and open workspace. New openings in walls and floors bring natural light into every corner. In addition to open-plan offices, there are also separate spaces for meetings, and even a dedicated workshop for building models. Various landscaping projects have transformed the concreted outdoor areas into green oases. We share our office with Osk-ART, an art platform and exhibition space founded by one of our office founders.
