Jan Ruusbroec church
A Divine Redesign for Ruisbroek
The Oskar - Officeu Architects team is tasked with redeveloping Jan Ruusbroec and Our Lady Church in Ruisbroek into a multifunctional space that blends with the public environment. The design breaks the building into three distinct elements: the tower, the nave, and the choir, each serving key functions. This approach minimizes the perception of a barrier, enhances accessibility, and encourages exploration.
Formerly closed corners will be transformed into open, active spaces that invite engagement. The nave will house a versatile area, while the choir will be repurposed as a cafeteria with a fully equipped kitchen and bar. An additional level will be added above the choir, serving as a smaller chapel. The church square will be redesigned to create a cohesive space, eliminating distinctions between front and back, and unifying the church with its surroundings.
