Regina Mundi

A nurturing ground for talent

Regina Mundi transforms a historic monastery site in Genk into a vibrant, green campus where learning, living and meeting come together. The masterplan builds on the strengths of the site: its topography, existing heritage buildings and mature trees form the foundation for a car-free inner area with a strong park-like character.

At the heart of the plan lies Forum Park, an open and welcoming space around which the new art academy, the primary school and the repurposed ZKK building are organised. A necklace of outdoor rooms – ranging from a play slope to an orchard – connects the site to the surrounding city, turning Regina Mundi into a permeable green link between the city centre and the landscape.

The architecture seeks a balance between compact construction and generous open space. Historic buildings are integrated wherever possible, while new volumes align in scale and materiality. The result is a future-proof, climate-resilient environment that supports the development of talent and gives this part of Genk a renewed identity.
